Dear Taoiseach, Ministers, TDs, leaders, and politicians within the Irish government.

A Bill to establish a Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme was presented to the Dáil on October 27th, 2022.

Our view is that the reparations scheme as it stands in its current form is a disappointment, and it pales in comparison to the harm survivors have suffered.

It was shocking, for us, to see the Dáil chamber so empty during last week’s debate. To call it an utter disgrace is putting it mildly.

Do you not care about the survivors of Mother & Baby Homes?

Do you not care about the decades of trauma that being sent to a Church and State-run Mother & Baby Home has placed upon not just one but multiple generations of Irish women and their families?

A Bill to establish a Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme was presented to the Dáil on October 27th, 2022. Look at how few turned up.

More than ever, it is imperative that elected officials understand that this is a serious issue and that they (YOU) show up and support survivors as the Bill continues to work its way through the Oireachtas. You cannot push this atrocity under the carpet. You must not turn a blind eye, we are asking that you please turn up and act.

It is clear that the Mother and Baby Homes are a darkened black mark on Irish history. The women who lived through them, and all those who survived them, deserve justice. It is possible and necessary for us to do better for these people.

We are asking that you step up and support the survivors of The Mother & Baby Homes.

Kind regards,

The Why Not Her? Collective.
